All I can say is that I have met some fabulous people on here and I hope I'll be friends with them for a long time. Though the films are nearing their end, we still have the books, we still have the marvellous actors who bought the series to life and we still have the friendships which have been forged though a love of the Twilight universe.

Don't be sad for the past, enjoy the present and look forward to the future with anticipation. It's not over, just taking another route. Long may it continue!
That was really perfectly said jed. I also wanted to add that the story of twilight means something so personal to each person. And its a really great experience to come together with other people when your on the path of figuring out who you are. A lot of people found sides of themeselves in this story and that part you take with you everyday. I've had a philosophy that the more you love something the more it grows. And I love twilight so it keeps growing for me everyday...

As much as ppl dislike TWil there are doubletripe quadruple more ppl like us who adore the story!!!!! so yeah we will keep it alive but i hear ya...

I am sad about BD2 coming but also excited. I am not going to let the sad things about this process spoil the experience.
I have to admit that it is the opposite side of this website that makes me sad, Jed. Whenever the window pops up asking if I really want to log off, I think to myself No, never, but I have RL to do.
I don't know where to find the number of active TMs still around and I would rather not know. In the late evenings, often I log on and access the new posts and there are none. The west coast must not have many of us. Strangely, newborns are still arriving, albeit at a slower rate, as you will have noticed, Jenn. I myself have been here since Oct / 11. So not long before you.
I agree with you all that we have made long term friendships among the Twi-verse. And even if new merchandise is not available, we will make our own creations. The TS franchise may be coming to an end but our obsession will just take a different direction.

I have heard there will be a "Host" trilogy and the movie is in production, I believe. SM will continue to write other books that we will read.

I will be seeing Kirsten in "Snow White and the Huntsman" soon. The TS cast are young and talented - we will have the chance to see them in whatever they do and follow their careers.

I do regret not being able to go to the LA premiere, but I think I will talk DD into going to the midnight showing of BD2 cause that is do-able if we organize a babysitter and work off the day after. We have not done this with the other movies. I think this will make it special for us.

I have a plan to enjoy and savour the approach of the crowning glory of the TS movie franchise. ( And still hope that SM will give us more of the TS to love)

I must admit, this makes me sad too. I used to not have enough time to catch up on the threads that had been updated since my last log on... but now it's really slow. I miss how active it used to be.

LadyEsme I like your phrasing: "the approach of the crowning glory"

I guess the feeling of the end will be much like I felt when I read BD for the first time. But like the books, I think the sadness will be short lived because I dived right into the first one again after I was done. I will do the same with the movies. Dive right back in and re-watch...

Thanks to SparklingTwilightMom for the awsome Canadian Coven banner..

Yep exactly! I did want to say that I have noticed as someone who's side of the obsession has revolved a lot around collecting things that i do notice that the books are still being bought in stores. That always makes me smile a lot. I do wonder how much energy will begin to rally around this as we approach sept. And Oct of this year when promoting will be at an all time high. I plan to ride the wave for sure...

    Please don't be sad.
BD2 is yet to come out.
The Twi Saga will always be discussed by academics, writers clubs etc
You never know, Ms Meyer might finish Midnight Sun, or write related books, if she feels inspired and passionate again.
The secret last chapter to "Picnic at Hanging Rock" was published decades after the book was published, something like that.
The great thing about creative arts and literature - is that they're unpredictable, which makes it exciting - a bit like Alice's visions!

While yes, there won't be as much in the media, It'll stick around for me. I don't have cable so media is really just the internet and seeing trailers in the theater. I read first in 2008 and while something I feel, "Oh, it's not so great", I get an itch a couple times a year to reread and to watch the movies. And it's still some of my favorite music, and how I discovered new, or not so new bands. I'm having just such an itch now. I am sad that it won't keep happening, like after HP 7.2 came out but it's like Rowling said "Hogwarts will always be there for you." If we love the stories, we'll keep coming back. Maybe it's not great literature, maybe people keep thinking it's for teens but it speaks to us. I love the characters. Even having Twilight on right, I still love picking up on the true character moments in the movies. I love it. I may not be a big RPatz or KStew fan in general but I love it.

Likewise, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable are long gone (Olivia de Havilland is still alive though) so we don't have the pleasure of anticipating new projects from them. I saw GWTW when I was 12 and immediately read the book (yeah, I was wierd, I guess). I still consider it one of the best films ever made. I know there are a lot of GWTW haters but some people just don't understand that the time and culture was a lot different from ours. And the movie (for 1939) was spectacular.

Like you, the obsession has diminished but not by admiration and a love of the book or film. Superb acting by Vivien Leigh. She was fabulous. And she make several more movies... but not known really in the US, except A Street Car Named Desire (1952) in which she won her second Best Actress Oscar. Anyway, if you ever want to chat about her or GWTW you can always PM me. :-)

Did you read Scarlett (1991) by Alexandra Ripley? It was OK. The TV mini-series that came out was VERY different but worth a watch. Scarlett redeems herself.

OK back to Twilight! I love the books, but since I watched Twilight first I have to admit that Rob Pattinson had a lot to do with me being interested in the story (haha).

True! The most interesting facts about Mitchell was that when she sent in the manuscript for GWTW, they told her or was the most poorly written manscript they had ever seen. It was later fished out of a garbage pile and an editor worked on it. Twilight was turned down 15 times by the time it made it to.publishing. I always find that the greatest things like books have fans and non fans. It's the same for 50 shades of grey which has been said to be poorly written smut, but has a similar obsessed following like twilight. Really its about the energy of the project and if it resognates with you. That's why we have comic con, because no one person obsesses over one thing. There are enough superheros to go around for us all. And when the time is right you meet the one that inspires you. To me that's twilight. It was an open and shut book once I let it in.

Not to get too off track here though, I will say I'm getting even More exited about the premeire of BD2. I kept my promise and did not read, the second half of the book to be a virgin in the movie theater. Despite the fact that i have now two hard back copies and my softback copy of BD. I was tempted, but I really felt like since my love affair started with the movies , it would " end" with the movies. Meaning I will love reading the second half afterwards because I love how it all unfolds to see it them re- see it through stephanies perspective.

Despite recent controvery, I'm just elated to get to experience the phenomenon of the movie premier and the fact that Rob's back on the market....there is hope you all for all of us! ..LOL.
