I think I love Ian more. And Jared. and Doc. What a great chapter. It really tied up a lot of unknowns by giving them a chance to talk outside of Wanda's presence.
What did you think of the new chapter in the 2010 paperback release of The Host????

If I'm honest, this extra chapter just makes me want more of these characters. I loved the interaction between Mel and Jared, and then Mel and Ian, and the depth of Mel's feelings for Wanderer. I really need more, more, more.
I agree, I was suddenly wishing there was a sequel announcement following the release. I would love to see more of Jared now that he can relax a bit. And more of Ian, definitely more of Ian. And to watch young Jamie grow up.
But I was just so happy to read these pages and I wanted it to keep going and going......I was immediately in the tunnels in my mind's eye. The awkwardness of the characters, just awesome.

Well, first, LL, you should have warned me that I would cry. I read it this morning while eating my breakfast before work and just bawled.
I loved it. It confirmed for me how Mel truly felt for Wanda - she really did come to love her deeply. I was actually disappointed that Doc could really do it. I had imagined him not being able to do it. And of course, Ian.The fact that he would not leave Wanda's side, not even to go and help them get a body for her, because it really didn't matter to him at all, well that was just
. I love that Mel wanted to go and talk to Ian alone and that Jared discreetly followed her.
This was my first read impressions. I can't wait to read it again!
Sorry, Tink. If I was there, I would have handed you a tissue.![]()
Thinking of your Doc comment. He does what he has to, not what he wants. After he has the failed extraction experiments, he gets stoned drunk. It is that way everytime, we are told. And yet he continues to do it over and over again, because he feels he must. He will keep his word to Wanda, because he feels he must. It is the only way he can honor her is to honor her wishes. But I think he would have gotten stoned drunk again afterwards.

I finally got a chance to read the new chapter last night. Oh my goodness!!! I bawled like a baby!
I loved seeing Melanie wake up and react to Wanda being gone. Getting her side of the relationship was beautiful. I didn't expect her reaction to Wanda being gone to be so violent and immediate. I thought she would reunite with Jared first and then mourn for Wanda. Her reaction to being alone added new depths to their relationship that I hadn't seen before.
My heart broke a little bit when I realized Doc really would have let her die. In my heart I've always thought that he wouldn't have really done it if Jared hadn't intervened. He must have been so conflicted. Just thinking about having to make that choice makes me cry again![]()
My Ian. My sweet, compassionate, heart-breaking Ian. Why can't he be real? For him, I would live in a hot, dusty cave in Arizona for the rest of my life. :<3: :<3: :<3: :<3: :<3:

So I need to buy a new copy of The Host to read this? Hmmm..buy another book that I already have...hubby is going to be so mad. Not like I can hide it...it sits on my shelf! OOPS! I will check back in here once I get it and read it.
Thank you Adoption teams & D2LG so much!
I wish I could buy it but I already have the Host and my husband would have a cow if I spent more money on a book I already have. Hoping I can get it from the library.

I cried and cried ! I LOVED IT !

Oh!!!! I thought it was fabulous, just so perfect.
I read that first, then reread the last couple chapters of the book....it's what was missing from the story, but I understand why she didn't include it, because of the different point of view....
Mel's chapter is so believable...confused and lonely then furious thinking they'd killed Wanda, her best friend...shesh...tissues!!!!
In the book, I loved that the people who loved Wanda the most went out to find her a new 'home' to inhabit..leaving her 'soul' mate safely at home holding her tank....then his holding her in his hand.../sob!/....more tissues....
Fell in love with Stephanie's writing all over again....
(don't quote me here, but I thought I read that she's considered a trilogy with these characters..hope,hope,hope....)
SIGH...... :<3:
