Edward and his suicide talk.

Clearly in New Moon, he proved he would go off himself if anything happened to Bella and it came up again in Breaking Dawn.
He even made that little pact with Jacob.

But... let's say Bella didn't survive, would he really have done that even with having a daughter? I was thinking about the issue at hand.
I mean it would be torture to live without her and with Renesmee, especially every time he looked in her eyes, he'd see her mother. And he had that "religious devotion" thing when talking about her when Bella came too. So clearly, he was devoted on sight.
But he has made it abundantly clear he would not live without Bella.

Also, Jacob would still imprint. Could he do it then? Maybe not.

Good point, I wondered if Jacob would've really gone through with it. Maybe after getting to know Renesemee he'd change his mind, maybe not. What a terrible thought though. I always tell myself the main character never dies, but its exciting when it gets close to that. But I never give it much thought, knowing that she really wouldnt die, then it would've been a terrible ending!

I think when Edawrd made the comment to Jacob, he was not expecting the child to live. He sy=till hadn't heard her yet and still thought it was a monster killing Bella. Had the baby lived nad Bella died, I think he would have stayed alive to care for her, because that was what bella would have wanted.

I don't think Jacob would have helped, but I think Edward would have found a way. As the Volturi approached, they both were going to die side by side while Nessie lived on(hopefully). Neither Bella nor Edward were able to function without each other. He knew Nessie would be taken care of.

If Edward was mortal I don't think he would of tried to committ suicide, I think what drives him to that is thinking of an eternity without Bella. I also don't think Jacob would of killed Renesme even if he hadn't imprinted on. He may have lunged for her but I do think he would of stopped. I also think he would of helped with the volturi too, even without the imprinting. But, I'm glad SM wrote it the way she did, I'm such a sucker for a happy ending!

I don't think he would have killed himself if Bella had died. Renesmee would be the same and even though we only get glimpses of her and Edward together, we loves her very much and I dont he would kill himself and leave her parentless. Also I think Carlisle would talk him out of it, if it crossed his mind again. But he would definitely be a changed man.

Yeah, I don't think that, once he realized Renesemee wasn't a monster, he'd have killed himself even if Bella died. A baby is something to live for - something you are obligated to live for, even. I don't think Edward would have been cruel enough to make his baby an orphan.

I agree, I think that Edward after conntecting with Reneesme would have stayed alive regardless. It may have been a battle and hard for him but I think the connection with Nessie would have been too strong and I don't think that Jacob would have gone through with it. Either way with her beng alive I think he would have stayed alive, however hard it would have been for him to live without Bella.

I think even though it would be hard for Edward to go on without Bella, I don't think he would have killed himself. He would stay alive because Renesmee was a part of Bella. He knew that she would have wanted him to take care of Renesmee and I don't think he would have abandoned his and Bella's child.

I think that he would have tried to go through with it. If Jacob would have is a different story. I think he would because at the end when he and Bella are both willing to die and leave Renesmee with Jacob. They both make it clear that they will not live without the other one. Especially with the imprint and the rest of his family there to care for Renesmee he would have died if Bella had.

I don't think Edward would have ended his existence with Renesmee in the picture. In my line of work, I deal a lot with suicide, and children is the one common lifeline that prevents many people from going that route. It's so strong. Although I don't think Edward would have ever ever been the same again. I believe that he would have been more of an empty vessel from then on, going through the motions for his daughter only.

I still believe Edward would have followed Bella. He would have set things up to take care of their child, very much like Bella had prepared the way out for Renesmee before the battle with the Volturi. She was staying, fighting and dying with her husband if it came to that, and Edward would do no less.

They cannot exist without the other.
