'Now and then, his lips would move, so fast it looked like they were trembling. But, when I asked, he told me he was singing to himself; it was too low for me to hear.'

Later in the book (and throughout the rest of the series), several mentions are made of the fact that the Cullens Family has the ability to speak to each other so rapidly and quietly that it is almost non-detectable by humans. I can't find an exact example at the moment because I don't want to get sidetracked away from what I'm writing here...

    Anyway, back to the Meadow:

    (page 266)

' "It's not only your company I crave! Never forget that. Never forget I am more dangerous to you than I am to anyone else" He stopped, and I looked to see him gazing unseeingly into the forest.'

    (page 269)

' "If I hadn't been denying my thirst for the last, well, too many years, I wouldn't have been able to stop myself." He paused, scowling at the trees.'

Those passages make me wonder... which members of the Cullens Family were in the woods surrounding the meadow that day?

I know it doesn't say it, and maybe it's just me, but I get the distinct impression that he had someone there to watch over him. To 'talk him down' as it were if things should get too bad for him... or... to help him clean up the crime scene and dispose of evidence if it ended... badly.

I can see Alice or Carlisle or both standing in the shadows out of Bella's sight, but well within hearing range of Edward... keeping an eye on him, supporting him and watching to make sure he didn't lose control.

Am I crazy or does anyone else get that impression?

Am I the only one that hopes that this is covered in depth in MS?

    Mod Edit: Title for clarification.
Very intriguing question. SM writes in such a way that simple things you just dismiss sometimes to turn out to be more. Can't wait for MS!!

Those are very intriguing quotes from TW to consider. I have to say I hope that intimate scene did not have any onlookers! I think MS shows Edward to mental enough to be talking to himself.
Do any of you feel different from these older August posts now that you've read all of the available MS?

Until you mentioned it I never thought about that. Hmm.. Emmett could of been there too.. he may of thought Edward was crazy at the time but he would of helped him clean up the cime sceen.. maybe even jasper to help with the emotions.. i defently think Alice would of been there
Have a wonderful twilight filled day, Dani

It has to be Alice. They have a connection of sorts that I'm sure of. I have asked my friends their opinion but nobody seems to have caught on. Especially when they are conversing through their thoughts in Italy. I would have liked to be a fly IN their brains.

When Edward is deep in thought, he often stares out the window at the trees or the clouds. I really didn't see anything different here, except no window pane. When he is mumbling to himself, that is the lullaby. I don't think they would have come to stop him. Remember in the house they all leave to give him privacy.

If...and it is a big if...there was anyone there, it would have been Alice. I think it would have had to be someone who had an extremely close relationship with Edward to be there for that moment. The only one that would fit to me would be Alice. Her abilities would also have been invaluable plus she was "supportive" when they went hunting the day before.

Not sure if I think she was there. It is interesting and the quotes certainly indicate that it was possible. Not back to read MS....like I need another excuse to read it again. I sure hope SM finishes it.

Thankyou Silentjen for my wonderful signature!!

I want her to finish the book- just for The Meadow Scene.

I'm selfish. I want her to finish the book just so I can see inside Edward's head!!! I can't wait. I've been reread over and over again until I know it word for word.
