When Melanie and Jamie first meet Jared, he is 9 and she is 17. When Wanda arrives at the caves, Jamie has just had his 14th birthday and you can infer from an internal conversation at the end of the book that Mel is now 21. So there is a 7-8 year difference. And while of course the directors don't have to cast actors with the same ages as the characters or with that big of an age difference, I think I would almost rather see them cast Jamie on the low end of the age scale. He needs to be young enough that he can still be innocent, vulnerable and with an open and pliable-enough mind to be able to easily accept Wanda. That part of his personality is key. He is not so old that he is entrenched and steadfast in his opinions. He is not as hardened and bitter as many of the others in the caves. He has not become jaded. Personally, in order to pull that off well I wouldn't cast anyone over the age of 16.Originally Posted by Mal62884

I agree with those who stated it should be unknown actors.
