While those people would fit the characters. Not sure that casting a bunch of actors from Twilight for The Host would be a very good idea. Although still fun to speculate.
Yeah true. I was just giving the people that were closest to who had in my imagaination while reading the book. I actually I hope if this ever gets made into a movie they use kind of unknown actors and actresses...like they did with Twilight.

Not really sure why as his age is defined very plainly in the book, along with the fact that Mel is still taller than him. He is still just a young boy. =)
When Melanie and Jamie first meet Jared, he is 9 and she is 17. When Wanda arrives at the caves, Jamie has just had his 14th birthday and you can infer from an internal conversation at the end of the book that Mel is now 21. So there is a 7-8 year difference. And while of course the directors don't have to cast actors with the same ages as the characters or with that big of an age difference, I think I would almost rather see them cast Jamie on the low end of the age scale. He needs to be young enough that he can still be innocent, vulnerable and with an open and pliable-enough mind to be able to easily accept Wanda. That part of his personality is key. He is not so old that he is entrenched and steadfast in his opinions. He is not as hardened and bitter as many of the others in the caves. He has not become jaded. Personally, in order to pull that off well I wouldn't cast anyone over the age of 16.

    Perkysue,

I agree completely. To often I feel like they cast to old for parts. I hope they don't do that with The Host. The boy I put on my list for Jamie, Chandler Canterbury, is only 11. By the time they actually film he would be at least 12 maybe 13, which would be perfect.

It reminds me of Percy Jackson and The Olympians. Great books. Not impressed with the movie. The 3 main characters were supposed to be in 6th grade and 12 years old. The actors were way to old for their parts, not to mention they hardly followed anything from the book in the movie. One of the worst adaptations Ive seen. I sincerely hope they do not go that route with The Host. It would be a real shame.

I had to put a face to the characters while I was reading so, I pictured the young girl that was the Terminator on the tv show, Sarah Conners Chronicles, as Melanie. I did picture Kellan as Jared, and Ian Somerhalder as Ian. And I could only picture Jed Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies as Jeb. I agree with those who stated it should be unknown actors.
I didn't hesitate this time, climbing in the passenger side quickly, the sooner to see his face. He grinned his crooked smile at me, stopping my breath and my heart. I couldn't imagine how an angel could be any more glorious. Bella Swan....Twilight

    .

I love the idea of Ian Somerhalder as Ian, I think he looks absolutely perfect for the role. But I think Wanda/Mel will be harder to cast, because her looks have to come second to her acting ability. The movie will need someone who can pull off the aspects of both Wanda and Mel's personalities without having it come off as being hokey. If I recall correctly, SM suggested Hillary Swank.

I thought Ian Somerhalder for IAn too. When I was reading the book I totally saw his eyes and his Face. I thought About Kellan Lutz as Jared. I am not sure about any of the other Characters yet. So Many of the names I have heard for Wanda and Mel seem to old for the part she is only suppose to be 20.

I agree I can't see it either but that's because I could only picture Kellan when I was reading the book. Matt might do a fantastic job and SM is the queen so whatever she wants is fine with me
