El Deguello
The cutthroat song. Right back in the days of Simon Bolivar, he played this music to his enemies as a signal that he was taking no prisoners. Later, on the first day of The Alamo, General Santa Anna played this music and hoisted a red flag to tell the rebel garrison that he would make good on his promises before the rebellion and hang the lot of them. Colonel Travis fired his largest artillery piece at the Mexican red flag to indicate his contempt for the threat; Colonel Bowie was incensed and insisted on negotiations - it is rarely told that Colonel Bowie and Colonel Travis (on Colonel Bowie;s insistence) negotiated and wanted to surrender on terms. But General Santa Anna wanted to make a point and would only offer "surrender at discretion", which we call unconditional surrender today. Given that he did not rescind his statement that he meant to hang every single rebel he captured, this was not much of an offer. When Colonel Bowie returned to the Alamo and after conferring once again with Colonel Travis, he personally fired a second shot at the Mexican red flag. Today, we would say, "Game On!"
El Deguello is the song which means "no mercy". I think it is Victoria's song for Bella; but it is also Edward Cullen's song for Victoria.
